What is DTAT Photography?

DTAT Photography represents the photographic journey of Dexter T. “Alex” Thompson (DTAT).  I am located in metro Atlanta, Georgia, and have an interest in photographing people and the many endeavors that they get into on this ride we call life.

My interest in photography dates back to high school working on the school newspaper. Back then, I learned early on that even though I am more left-brain dominant (analytical), I have a formattable creative side that also had to be balanced. Thus, I was a member of the school band but also reported on the sciences and the various arts programs.

Later in college, my friends and I would document the travels of the school’s marching and stage bands in photos. Remembering joking around while getting fitted for our uniforms, the excitement of getting ready to march on the field, or how hot it was packing the van after the third performance of the day.

Many years later, I am still involved in the arts and find that the images that I create help to create a unique story that still has the ability to conjure memories and emotions. To paraphrase the Australian landscape photographer Destin Sparks, it is the story I fail to put into words. Instead, I tell the story in light.
